Athens is located approximately halfway between
Nashville and Birmingham along Interstate 65, sharing a boundary
with the Huntsville Alabama real estate city limits (even
though the local phone company does not include it in the
same Huntsville/Madison local calling zone). Located within
three miles of Decatur, the city of Athens encompasses just
under 40 miles of land where many homes in the central part
of the city date back to the antebellum era and are part of
the historic preservation districts.
New Market, located within
Madison County, but included in the Huntsville Alabama real
estate statistical area, is a town which has never been incorporated
and spans about 17 square miles on the northeast side of Huntsville.
Home prices within New Market average in the low to mid $100,000’s
and are popular with families looking to be close enough to
the city but far enough for a country-living feel. There are
many new subdivisions within New Market where builders such
as Gibson Homes and Jeff Benton Homes are building new Huntsville
Alabama real estate for this growing suburb.
Meridianville is neighboring suburb with Hazel
Green, Tony and Huntsville Alabama real estate located just
north of the city. Meridianville is also a sprawling suburb
with new construction being built throughout the area, where
families may enjoy larger than average lots and homes currently
priced between the mid $100,000’s to the high $300,000’s.
North of Meridianville you
will find Hazel Green, AL which was named by President Andrew
Jackson after the vibrant green hazel bushes that were found
alongside the roads there. At one time, Hazel Green was simply
a crossroads for travel to Athens to the west, Winchester,
TN to the east, Nashville to the north and Huntsville Alabama
real estate to the south. Spanning just 10 square miles, Hazel
Green has neighboring towns including New Market, Toney and
Fayettville, TN. The schools within the Hazel Green district
are Hazel Green Elementary, Meridianville Middle and Hazel
Green High School.
Additional suburbs of the
Huntsville
Alabama real estate market include Madison, Hampton Cove,
Gurley, Harvest, Lacey’s Spring, Monrovia, Moores Mill,
New Hope, Owens Cross Roads, Toney and Triana. The Redstone
Arsenal is also found on the southwest side of Huntsville
and provides housing for military and civilians who work on
base.
Many new subdivisions have
been constructed to accomodate the Base Realignment and Closure
(BRAC) which began in 2003. The total number of lots within
these subdivisions that have been built with new homes, totals
almost 13,000. This does not include the over 4,000 apartments
being introduced and several new condominiums being built
in the area.
Huntsville Alabama real estate
and the city in general is one of the most talked about cities
in the southeast, where it is repeatedly referred to as being
one of the finest areas to live, work and play by many publications
throughout the U.S. Being rich in history and unsurpassed
character, Huntsville Alabama real estate is hands-down a
smart choice for your family’s to call home.
